Full Moon in Capricorn Ritual Guide
We have an astrological treat of sorts coming up tonight: A Full Strawberry Moon in Capricorn. The term ‘Strawberry Moon’ has roots in Native American cultures. Traditionally, the name has been used by the Algonquin, Ojibwe, Dakota and Lakota peoples of what is now the United States. It was used to mark the ripening of ‘June-bearing’ strawberries as they became ready for picking. The Haida people of Canada also refer to this moon as ‘Berries Ripen Moon’ to reflect this phenomenon. As the flowers bloom and the fruit is ready to be picked, it can be an equally abundant time in our lives. After sunset on the 24th look towards the southeast to see the golden hue this moon will leave behind.
Full moon in Capricorn is a time for balance between home-life and career. Security is paramount under this moon. The pull towards peace of mind, in all its forms, will be the key to keeping your emotions positive at this time. This moon wants prudence and conservatism in the day-to-day. It wants to see focus, concentration, self-control and strong self-discipline. With this self-discipline will come a desire to ‘wrap things up’. Anything you have left lingering, hanging in the ether, now is the time to finish it off, clean it up, tie those loose ends. Focus on putting together a step-by-step plan the achieve your goal.
When the moon transitions through this earth sign, emotions are palpable. The time it takes to address them and lean in to ‘feeling your feelings’ is crucial. There will likely be a draw to burying any negative emotions, but as we know, this solves nothing. They need this time to be dealt with and as painful as it may be to ask, reaching out for support may well be necessary; just go with it and don’t let pride get in the way.
As ambition finds it stride in Capricorn, career goals will be swirling in your head. That being said, this will not be the time to start a new job, but rather put your head down and focus on what is in front of you. The strength of this sign is the activities that require a high level of concentration and a methodical, well-worn approach to work. Capricorn is the sign of structure, use this as a powerful planning phase that will bear fruit for the future to come, rather than focusing on instantaneous success. In the race to the top, Capricorn is running a marathon, not the 5k sprint.
The ambitious energy of Capricorn is heightened this week as it coincides with Summer Solstice celebrations, adding a little more Solar power to the proceedings. This is a time of abundance, and manifestation magick as we can harness fiery sun energy to call in our desires and dreams. Say goodbye to the intellectual ideas season of Gemini and hello to the touchy feeling season of Cancer as we embrace what is truly in our hearts. It’s also a moment to move away from the doing of Spring into the being of Summer - and time to celebrate ourselves and all of our abundances and achievements.
Most important of all with this Full Moon, is that Capricorn wants each of us to live a life of purpose. Your purpose is something that comes from deep within your soul. It is how you extend the roots of your being into the world.
Follow our ritual guide below to make the most out of this Full Moon energy…
Put down roots
Capricorn energy is all about playing the long game, having tenacity and patience to reach goals by putting down roots and laying out longer-term plans. Sometimes this ambitious energy can feel overwhelming, we recommend harnessing the earth energy of wisdom and experience by getting out into nature amongst the trees for a spot of the Japanese practice shinrin yoku (forest bathing). Being out in a forest has many physical and emotional benefits so take your time drinking in the magickal vibes of the calm forest. Tree’s are particularly spiritual and in the Tarot represent the Alchemical saying “as above so below” as their roots below mirror their branches above. This is the notion that what is going on in your inner world is expressed in your outer world. It is important to make sure you feel calm and centered so you can achieve your dreams. Whilst you’re in the wood, or perhaps even your local park or garden, you may feel drawn to a particular tree, the older and sturdier the better. One you have your tree, spend some time leaning against it, feeling its supportive and wise energy. If you feel called to, you may want to leave a little (natural) gift for the tree such as a small crystal, flower or pebble. Visit the tree often whenever you feel you need to be reminded of the supportive power and patience of nature.
If you are able to, forage for a bay leaf as this will form the next part of the ritual. Remember to thank the tree when you remove the bay leaf.
Manifestation magick
A Capricorn Moon is the perfect time for manifestation. Start by lighting a candle with intention. Next, take your bay leaf (they are known to be lucky in magick) and write one word that you want to call in for the next moon. The word could be as simple as - abundance, patience, connection or love - whatever it is you would like more of. As you write this word down, imagine how your life will feel with more of this in it, feel gratitude for the thing you are calling in as if you already have it. This tells the universe that you trust that you will receive your desires and will call in the energy you need. Burn the bay leaf, somewhere safe to complete the manifestation magick. If you can’t get your hands on a bay leaf, fear not, a small piece of paper can work just as well.
The power of the pen
Journaling can be such a powerful tool. By reflecting on our achievements and how things made us feel, we are reminded of how far we’ve come and realise that we can accomplish anything through difficult times and emotions. Take some time committing down on paper all the things you are grateful for, all the things you have overcome and all of the love you have in your life - you can come back to this list any time you need reminding you how brilliant you are.
Capricorn Moon with Sun in Cancer is also about making sure you strike a work life balance, harness the Cancerian solar energy this week and take some to rest and assess how to call more energy into your life so you can achieve your dreams. Spend some time noting down what is bringing you energy and what is draining your energy - you can then use this list as a plan to move forward either to ensure more boundaries or do more of what you love.
Once you’re done writing we recommend charging your favourite pen on the window sill this Full Moon just as you do your crystals, you can then use this powered up pen when you come to set your intentions on New Moon in Cancer on the 10th July.
With Love on this Strawberry Moon
