Gemini New Moon Solar Eclipse Ritual Guide

The cosmic vortex is about to close as we hit peak ‘astrological chaos’ today when a Solar Eclipse, Mercury retrograde and New Moon all overlap in Gemini. When we think of Gemini, we think observant, impulsive, intelligent, capricious, adaptable, and outgoing, among many other things. This is the type of energy we will channel today as we experience a Gemini New Moon Solar Eclipse. A solar eclipse occurs when the moon moves in front of the sun to create a ‘ring of fire’ illusion. This one will be difficult to see depending upon where in the world you are, but in the UK we will witness it at 10:07am BST, maximum height at 11:14am with its conclusion at 12:26pm. So plan accordingly from there to witness it for yourself. While it may not be possible to perform you ritual right at optimal time, you can harness the potent eclipse energy for the whole of the 10th and into the 11th.

In general, the solar eclipse is known as the time to transform the unknown into the known, unconscious into conscious, thereby changing our worldly perceptions. Think of the sun as the representation of the energy we put out into the world. It is the story we tell others about ourselves and how we want them to perceive us. Naturally, the moon is the opposite of this. The moon is the narrative we are telling ourselves about who we are and the energies we keep hidden deep down inside. This inner-moon energy helps us to understand how we really feel, what we emotionally need (not want) and understand our inner workings on a much deeper level.

During a solar eclipse, our known selves (the sun) is eclipsed by our unknown selves (the moon). This vibrational energy shift will bring the unknown out for the rest of the world to see. The inner dialogue we have with ourselves will be front and centre as we understand the meaning of past experiences, connect the dots between the previously unacknowledged and see how our belief systems shape the energy we project. By adding the Gemini energy into the mix, we will be forced to attend to the duality of life and think of new ways to operate through the world. Release yourself from holds of the past and think of new energies to project into the world.

Gemini is one of the most communication-focused signs of the zodiac, so under its guise it’s time to implement more communication-based practices into your life. Something as simple as socialising with friends, neighbours, colleagues is a wonderful place to start. After the long winter we’ve had, brushing up on your small talk skills could not come at a better time. The small daily interactions you found yourself avoiding before this period may now be the very things you need in order to open your world up. Speak to that co-worker you often ignore, speak to the acquaintance you bump into at the shop, etc. Gemini is wonderfully flirtatious, so if you’re single, allow that side of yourself to come out. We can extend this communicative mood to family members. If there is anyone you haven’t reached out to in many months, open the lines of discussion during this new moon. They may need you more than you’ve realised. These inspired discussions work for ourselves too. How are you speaking to yourself? Are you being kind to yourself? Alternatively, perhaps you’re not being direct enough. Check-in with yourself and ask the questions that need to be asked.

In honour of Gemini’s chatty nature and while in a Mercury retrograde, this New Moon Ritual Guide is aimed at opening up our channels of communication, to make us better communicators across the board.

To begin, you will need to set up your ritual altar, you’ll need:

- A candle - Any Air element orientated (the element of communication) aromatic. Think almond, bergamot, lavender, pine.

- Something blue. This could be a celestine or another blue crystal such as blue chalcedony or sodalite, a blue ribbon or string, blue flower or anything small.

- Pen and paper

- A mirror

Step One

Start by lighting your candle to open your New Moon Ritual. Take some time in quiet reflection and set your intention for what you want to call in during this practice. As Gemini is represented by the symbol of the twins it can often be considered a mirror for yourself or someone else. Gaze into your mirror and tell yourself something you love about yourself or that you are proud of. Thank yourself for showing up today.

Step Two

Find a comfortable spot to sit and get into your favourite pose for meditation. Take a few deep cleansing breaths, in through the nose and out through the mouth, before chanting a mantra to balance the throat chakra, the chakra connected to communication. We recommend:

Sat Nam - pronounced Suh-ah-tuh na-hm

Sat means “truth.” Nam means “identity.” Together, sat nam means “truth is my identity” This is the perfect mantra to reflect the communicative Gemini energy and allows for true personal expression.

Breathe in through the nose and chant the mantra (aloud or in your head) for three minutes or more if you’re getting into the zone. While you do this, visualise the colour blue at the throat centre which is the colour of the throat chakra.

Step Three

Bring out your pen and paper. write down your new moon wishes as “The six things I want most in life”.

Begin making your list, thinking of the 6 things you want in your life right now. You can be as detailed as you like. Nothing is too small or too big to list. Part of the focus of this communication is to communicate and verbalise your inner desires to yourself. It will unlock the inner honesty to reveal who you are at your core.

Next, review the list. How does it feel to see these things written down? Notice any themes running throughout. Now, this step will be a bit more difficult. Compare 1 with 2, 3 with 4, and 5 with 6. Of each pairing, get rid of one. This will leave you with the three most important things you want from life. Review this smaller list and think about what steps could be taken immediately to make them happen. By stripping back the list to its core you reveal to yourself your inner-moon energy and its guiding forces.

Step Four

Take a smaller piece of paper.

Write down a time or incident where you felt there was a miscommunication or simply that you could have articulated yourself better. Fold the paper in half, again, and again, and half again. With every fold repeat to yourself ‘confident communication changes everything’.

Step Five

Move to a room with a sink.

Fill the basin with a shallow level of water. If you have a scent and oil of something associated with the Air-element such as lavender, drop it into the sink with the water. Place your blue crystal into the water (double-check beforehand that this is a crystal that is safe to be in water and won’t dissolve.) Now, be very careful with this next step. Light the edge of the smaller paper with the flame from your candle. Allow it to catch fire for just a few seconds, until the words have begun to burn. Then drop the paper into the water with all of the blue elements surrounding it. Slowly watch it disintegrate and disappear into oblivion along with your communication blockages as you repeat

“I communicate confidently everything I desire”

Step Six

To complete your ritual, give back to your community and become the Gemini twin mirror to someone you care about and send them a message of gratitude and admiration - telling them what you love about them and what traits or achievements you admire in them.

Sit back, relax and allow the energies of the Gemini New Moon to manifest.
